Introduction: Theprofessional burnout phenomenon is an extremely negative phenomenon, affecting, most of all, persons working with people, as well as in professions encumbered with a lot of responsibility for other people. Study aim: The aim of the study is assessment of theprofessional burnout phenomenon among nursing personnel working in intensive care units. Researches method: The researches were conducted using the diagnostic poll method. The technique that was used to conduct the researches background was the survey technique, the tool, however, was the questionnaire. Researches results: 114 respondents who worked as a nursing personnel in some intensive care units have taken part in the research. It was proved that some factors that influence on the professional burnout are the factors such as excessive responsibility, an excess of duties, a lack of separation of a professional life from a private one. Discussion: The discussion was conducted with the results received by other authors conducting researches on the professional burnout phenomenon. It was indicated that individual results may differ according to the factors causing the professional burnout. It was also presented that in various researches, various ways of dealing with the professional burnout phenomenon were enumerated.
Conclusions:
The phenomenon of burnout is known among respondents. At work, the respondents experience competition between co-workers and excessive expectations from their superiors.
Working in an intensive care unit is stressful. Supervisors of nursing staff take actions to prevent burnout among staff. Respondents tend not to use various forms of help from specialists or psychologists to prevent burnout. They also often do not take actions to deal with burnout on their own
